The national assembly of comedy and Melayeic Rubbish. By Seye Folarin
In any sane clime, what makes a lawmaker a distinguished fellow far outweighs his or her level of composure and undiluted passion for the job. There is a clear difference between a distinguished honourable lawmaker and distinguished dishonourable lawjester.
In Nigeria’s contemporary view, the business of lawmaking has been taken to the gutters of vague and it is becoming inexplicitly intolerable by the day that the citizens no longer see reasons why its sustenance as an arm of government is in any way beneficial to the country. Basically, the primary objective has been overshadowed by both personal and parochial selfish interests. It has now obviously become who gets what and who fights who. The institution has now become an instrument of negotiation for soft landings. The institution is made of funny characters who without conscience and second thoughts would pass vote of confidence on anything that smells corruption. Vote of confidence signing has now turned to something of usual practice rather than building on the etiquette and formidable rules of legislative activities at enhancing the living conditions of the citizens.
Unfortunately we now have series of solidarity marches in and out of courts where about 50 to 70 of senators would accompany their president to the court for hearings. These are lawmakers being fed with taxpayers money leaving their primary assignments to chase an estranged goose. Plenary sittings are often cancelled to enable the jobless entities followed their principal with their overfed bellies to the court.
From the inception of the 8th assembly, there have been a lot of moves to promulgate anti-people laws like anti-social media bill, amendment of the constitution to provide immunity for its principal officers among others. Budget padding is another scenario that cannot be forgotten easily as the nation was held hostage because of the surrounding politics. Most recently, an attempt to intimidate the Attorney General of the federation over the forgery of senate standing rules also came to limelight. All of these self-serving uncharitable moves and legislative shenanigans have always hit the brick wall. The most disgusting part of it is the sinister move tobwant to oust President Buhari from power as rumoured in some quarters. I even learnt it was one Senator Eyinaya Abaribe from Abia state who moved the motion. Whatever it is that makes them feel like they can determine the destiny of a nation can only be best imagined as a daydream. They have to go back to sleep and have fresh dreams as they appear to lack the knowledge of the constitutional stipulations as to how a sitting President can be impeached. The citizens are watching closely and are not taking things lightly. They have been threatening mostly on social media platforms that the national assembly most especially the Senate may soon become history if they don’t get to work for people’s interests rather than theirs. The end will surely justify the means.
Melayeic Rubbish
I have watched Dino Melaye with keen interest since his days at the 5th assembly as a member of the House of representatives. He lacks public decorum, virtues of self-respect and very full of himself. His level of arrogance is second to none. It was all these characteristics that nearly sent him into political extinction before bouncing back on the mantra of change. I am not surprised that instead of choosing to represent his people effectively he had rather chosen to be body guard to his principal and wife. His consistent attitudinal display can be likened to that of someone who doesn’t know the difference between left and right. His business of lawmaking is suffering from the grip of misplaced priority. What can be more than being foolish to want to fight other people’s fight on their behalf when your primary duty is to enhance the cause of your own people. I am not surprised at his outlandish of venomous threats to perceived enemies.
The most recent of his shameful attitude is to have threatened not only to beat up a woman but another man’s wife. This only tells the reason why he can never be man enough.
I keep asking people why they are asking for Dino Melaye's head just because he threatened to beat and impregnate Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Those who have sound knowledge of history knows that is his way as women abuser and universal donor, so he sees nothing wrong in what he said. To him it is a normal way of life.
However, I am not surprised in any way that it took such dimension for Melaye to display his loyalty to the Senate President. He is simply a man of his words. Some few months back, he promised his principal that even in death, he would be the last man standing by him. So if he had reacted the way he did, it simply means he wasn't sure where the consequence would come from and was only exploring all available channels to play to the gallery and being a fish testing the waters to know which is acidic and which is chlorinated.
Don't blame Melaye, he only wants to be the last person standing by his principal.
