Governor Fayemi Security details attacks a traveller in Akure. (PHOTOS & VIDEO)

In what appeared to be a violent rehearsal of a Hollywood action movie, the security details of the Ekiti State Governor, John Kayode Fayemi pounced on an innocent man travelling from Abuja to Sagamu in Ogun State leaving his car severely vandalised, tore his caftan regalia and broke his eye glasses on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021 along Akure -Oloko Road of Ondo State.

The traveller who works with the Federal government in the office of the Head of Service was enroute to Akure when the unfortunate incident occurred.

According to the account from the victim, Mr. Oladapo Osituyo, when contacted by our chief correspondent, he said he had been allowed to go through to the road which the governor's convoy also incidentally plied. He said " I was allowed to go through by one of the governor's  security men at a cross junction to the road which the governor also eventually plied. When I realised the governor's convoy was coming behind, I decided to pull over out of respect  to allow them go through before embarking on my journey. But to my utmost surprise, I heard bangs on my car and before I realised they have broken my car windows, side mirrors, windscreen and they also rough handled me to en extent that my eye glasses got broken and my jalamia (caftan dress) was torn. It was like a dream. I explained to them who I was and that I was on my way to Sagamu from Abuja. They even took my Identity Card to the governor to show to him but he only told them to return my Identity card to me and zoomed off without showing empathy. I thank God that my life was not lost in the process because I had already thought of the worse happening and I wouldn't have been able to tell the story should the worse had happened. I have heard consistently that power corrupts and intoxicates; this is just a clear example of that. If Governor Fayemi who is well respected as the Chairman of Governor's forum and formerly known as a foremost activist during NADECO days could be so unconcerned about my plight, I don't think there is hope for this country. Personally, I used to be his fan but the incident that took place on the 22nd December, 2021 in Ado Ekiti has given me a second thought about him."

When asked if he eventually got to Ogun State on the same day, Mr. Osituyo said " I actually had to drive the car without a clear wind screen and side mirrors to Sagamu because I feared for my life. It was actually like I was riding on okada motorcycle because my windows have been broken. I took the risk because I didn't want a minute silence to be declared concerning me. My jaws were wobbly all through the journey but I thank God I made it. Ki Olorun ki o fun awon alagbara ni suuru  ( May God grant those in position of authority the will power to be patient and be less oppressive").

When asked if his car has eventually been sorted, he responded: " this is an unexpected expenditure for me. You know I am a civil servant who is dependent on salary? And taking note of the fact that this is a festive period in which a lot of responsibilities need to be met. If I have to borrow to fix the car I will do so. But I just felt the governor should have showed empathy and humane character towards my plight, having realised I was badly attacked. If they feel nobody can question them, have they forgotten that they will give account to God one day?" he said.
